Great Idea: Job Interview Reviews (Discussion)

Don’t you think it would be a great idea if there would be a website in which you can read up what other peoples experiences were at their job interview. Example: Today you are applying for a job at Google in USA as a Key Account Manager. You look up the website and can choose the country (USA), the company (Google) and the position (Key Account Manager). What you should be able to find is other job candidates reviews on what they experienced when they went for the interview…. at the same company, in the same country possibly also for the same position…. Would that not be a GREAT idea? There are already so many websites out there with reviews, but apparently nobody has yet thought of something like this in terms of job interview experiences…... A candidate could really have an edge in gaining insider information and being well prepared. Also companies would try to make a good impression, otherwise they would know that people could easily put negative comments on the web and that could make a difference in terms of reputation but also on their bottom line.

I think that would be a great idea Poshmonkey! Especially since it’s important to make the best impression from both ends; from the future employee’s perspective, but also that of the employer. Because, as we sometimes forget, an interview can go badly in the other direction is the employer doesn’t meet the standards or the expectations of the one being interviewed.

It would be interesting to see how this would work in the competitive business world. I can see some candidates not posting how their interview went in fear of loosing credibility to the company, or thinking the interview went well when it really didn’t go as well as the next person. Or, the person who is interviewed last would be able to take all the shortcomings of the other candidates and have a star performer interview to boot.

Would people post their experiences to help others? To communicate and chat? What would be the motives of those posting before the next interviewee?

This could work as a great way to promote and track candidates from an employee perspective as well.

Hello! I didn’t expect such a quick reply …. :-) Well, obviously I wouldn’t post my job interview experience straight after the interview. First, I would wait until I would know whether I have the job or not and at a later stage I would post it. It would also require a big commitment from the jobseekers’s side to post this reviews otherwise it wouldn’t make any sense. I believe people would share their experiences …. why would they not do it? Nowadays they share pictures, videos, advice, knowledge, other shopping experiences and so on in the internet already. So I wouldn’t worry about that…. once the website would be popular I’m sure it would spread the word easily and quickly. If I would have the technical skills and resources and the financial means I would do it …..

Plus, people like to complain about stuff… so if the interview went really bad, who wouldn’t want to cry about it online?

This could be a great tool to help eliminate interviews where they ask inappropriate or discriminatory questions. Sadly, a lot of people get asked these sort of questions and are either unaware that they’re not supposed to answer them, or else feel uncomfortable complaining since they really need the job. But if there was potential that the info would leak to the web, I’m sure interviewers would think twice before every question!

Yes, oLahav, I fully agree with you in this regard….. Word-of-mouth (if negative) is something that can damage a company’s reputation considerably, particularly in the internet and this reaching a huge number of people, fast and for free. On the other hand, positive word-of-mouth (positive job interview experiences) can increase a company’s reputation and being used to hire great people.

Still, it would be a great idea because if you were applying for the job, you could get an idea of what questions they’ll ask, so you would feel less nervous because you would be more prepared.
