What makes a great resume? (Discussion)

Karin saidThu, 11 Dec 2008 17:39:29 -0000 ( Link )

I would say a mixture of: no mistakes in spelling or grammar, good structure, a certain degree of originality, tailor-made to a particular company and job, and last but not least ACHIEVEMENTS. That’s what would impress me the most as a recruiter. You can list a lot of tasks that you had to perform in various jobs but that doesn’t necessarily tell you anything about how well you performed in your job – while achievements speak a clear language. Don’t you think so?

Achievements are key – what have you done for them lately, gives a lot of credence to what will you do for me if I hire you.

What Shouldice said is definitely true. Also as Karin said the resume must be tailor-made to a particular company and job.

No vagueness in the description. Saying “I provided leadership to my team” means nothing compared to “I led a team of 8 associates for the Alumni Appreciation Program”. And yes, Karin is absolutely right!
